After declining his own presidential run, Manchin warns No Labels could be a spoiler in 2024

West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin on Friday urged No Labels, an organization that has explored fielding a presidential candidate, to look at the prospect that such an effort would merely amount to a spoiler in the 2024 election.

Manchin had attracted attention as a potential third-party candidate after announcing he would not seek reelection in the Senate, though he later opted against a play for the White House.

Speaking at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute on Friday, Manchin said the group should "take a hard look" and see if such an effort would "basically work as a spoiler," The Hill reported. "Right now, if you can’t get on 50 states and you’re going to basically hit in some of the battleground states that could be very detrimental to what the outcome would be."

No Labels plans to make a decision on a prospective campaign after next week's Super Tuesday contests. The group has secured ballot access inn 16 states. Former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden are widely expected to become their parties' nominees, though three other candidates have emerged outside of the traditional major parties, including the Green Party's Jill Stein, and independents Cornel West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
