Conservative D.C. outlet claims Trump 'unfit for power' after Hutchinson's Jan. 6 testimony
This is not the first time the Examiner has criticized Trump
The Washington Examiner, a conservative D.C. media outlet, wrote an editorial Wednesday titled, "Trump proven unfit for power again," after former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson relayed her version of Jan. 6 to the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot.
Hutchinson’s surprise testimony should "ring the death knell" for Trump's future in politics, the Examiner article began.
The 25-year-old Hutchinson's experience working for top-ranking members of Congress "should establish her credibility," the board said, calling her a "conservative Trumpist true believer and a tremendously credible one at that."
Trump vehemently denied Hutchinson's claims in a series of posts on his platform, Truth Social, while she testified to the Democrat-led committee.
"I hardly know who this person, Cassidy Hutchinson, is, other than I heard very negative things about her (a total phony and 'leaker')," the former president wrote.
The Washington Examiner responded to her testimony with the claim that "Trump is unfit to be anywhere near power ever again." The outlet detailed her allegations, including how she accused the 45th president of physically trying to force a limousine back to the Capitol on Jan. 6.
"Hutchinson’s testimony confirmed a damning portrayal of Trump as unstable, unmoored, and absolutely heedless of his sworn duty to effectuate a peaceful transition of presidential power. Considering the entirety of her testimony, it is unsurprising that Hutchinson said she heard serious discussions of Cabinet members invoking the 25th Amendment that would have at least temporarily evicted Trump from office," the outlet said, concluding, "Trump is a disgrace. Republicans have far better options to lead the party in 2024. No one should think otherwise, much less support him, ever again."
This is not the first time the Examiner has criticized Trump.
The morning of Jan. 6, the Examiner published an editorial titled, "Trump has put his own legacy at risk," which explained how the then-president's election fraud claims turned him into a "sore loser of the most self-indulgent and least attractive type."
Late in the afternoon of Jan. 6, the outlet published another opinion piece with the title, "Trump and his mob have dishonored America," calling the Capitol riot "a seditious insurrection."
