Donald Trump applauds 'outstanding' Wisconsin special counsel for 2020 election investigation

Former President Donald Trump applauded the attorney investigating allegations of election fraud in Wisconsin and said the investigation needs to continue, even though the special counsel's contract is set to expire by the end of the month.

Republican state Speaker Robin Vos hired former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman to probe Wisconsin's 2020 presidential election. His contract was set to expire at the end of last year, but it was extended to April 30.

"The Special Counsel appointed by the Wisconsin Assembly to investigate the crimes of the 2020 Election did an outstanding job," Trump wrote about Gableman.

"He discovered many pieces of evidence that indicate foul play," Trump said.

Earlier this year Gableman discovered more than 90 Wisconsin nursing homes that had 95% to 100% voter participation, far above the national average rates. Gableman has allowed the Thomas More Society, a conservative law firm, to sublease some of his office space, WKOW 27 reported. The legal firm filed a formal complaint against the Green Bay city clerk on Monday for alleged illegal ballot harvesting in an election earlier this month.

"Anyone calling themselves a Republican in Wisconsin should support the continued investigation in Wisconsin without interference," Trump said.

"After all of the evidence the report brought to light, how could anyone want to stop it?" he asked.

Trump went on to criticize Wisconsin politicians.

"I understand some RINOs have primary challengers in Wisconsin," he said. "I'm sure their primary opponents would get a huge bump in the polls if these RINOs interfere."

Last month, Vos told a group of conservatives concerned about the 2020 election that the state legislature cannot change the results.

"We don't have the ability to unilaterally overturn the election," Vos said. "It can't happen."

Gableman told former Trump White House strategist Steve Bannon earlier this month that Vos plans on ending the special council's investigation by April 26.
