Jeb Bush calls the Trump indictment 'very political'

"This is very political, not a matter of justice. In this case, let the jury be the voters," said the former Florida governor and opponent of Trump in the 2016 race for the GOP presidential nomination.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who competed against Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, said Saturday that he believes the indictment of the former president is politically motivated.

"Bragg's predecessor didn't take up the case," Bush wrote on Twitter. "The Justice Department didn't take up the case. Bragg first said he would not take up the case. This is very political, not a matter of justice. In this case, let the jury be the voters."

A Manhattan grand jury voted to indict former President Trump earlier this week over his alleged role in a payment to Stormy Daniels in 2016, making him the first former president to face criminal charges.

Many other Republicans, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, have also called this indictment politically motivated.

The 45th President of the United States has called this a witch hunt.

"This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history," Trump said in a statement. "From the time I came down the golden escalator at Trump Tower, and even before I was sworn in as your President of the United States, the Radical Left Democrats – the enemy of the hard-working men and women of this Country – have been engaged in a Witch-Hunt to destroy the Make America Great Again movement."

Trump is expected to be arraigned next Tuesday in New York City.
