Melania Trump arrives for husband's speech at the Republican convention

Former first lady Melania Trump made her grand entrance at the Republican convention on Thursday night, to a warm reception from the audience.

Melania Trump, who is married to former President Donald Trump, arrived shortly before her husband is scheduled to go onstage to accept his nomination as the Republican nominee for president.

The former first lady has been absent on the campaign trail recently, preferring to stay out of the limelight. She also lost her mother earlier this year. Melania Trump is not scheduled to speak at the convention, breaking a decades-long tradition that dates back to Barbara Bush in 1992, according to MSNBC.

Melania Trump did speak at the Republican conventions in 2016, and 2020 when her husband also received the party's nomination. Melania Trump is expected to stay with her family in the VIP box, alongside Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance.
