Utah GOP Sen. Mitt Romney reportedly says in a soon-to-be-released book Oprah Winfrey suggested he join her on a unity presidential ticket in 2020 to stop President Trump's reelection.

The book, "Romney: A Reckoning" by McKay Coppins, is due out Oct. 24.

The book is based on dozens of hours of interviews with Romney, an outspoken critic of fellow Republican Trump, and access to the retiring senator's diaries and journals, according the Axios.com.

Coppins writes Romney told him that Winfrey made the pitch to run together "to save the country," a source familiar with the manuscript told Axios.

A spokesperson for Winfrey, an entertainment celebrity and big Democrat Party donor, disputes Romney's recollection of the matter.

"In November 2019, Ms. Winfrey called Senator Romney to encourage him to run on an Independent ticket," the spokesperson said. "She was not calling to be part of the ticket and was never considering running herself."
