Trump scores another endorsement from major Senate Republican
Barrasso is the highest-ranking GOP senator to have endorsed Trump.
Former President Donald Trump scored another endorsement from a Republican senator after Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, the Senate Republican Conference Chair, announced his support for the former president.
"We cannot afford another four years of Joe Biden's failures. So if you want to get the country back on track, which is what I want to do, we need a strong Republican, conservative House and Senate, and we need Donald Trump back in the White House," Barrasso said Tuesday on Fox News' "Hannity."
Barrasso, the third-ranking Senate Republican, is the 20th U.S. senator to endorse Trump, according to a running endorsement tracker from FiveThirtyEight. Barrasso is the highest-ranking GOP senator to have endorsed Trump as of Wednesday morning.
In a separate statement issued after his "Hannity" appearance, Barrasso reiterated his support for Trump, saying that the U.S. was "better off" under his leadership. Barrasso, who is the ranking member of the Senate Energy Committee, also touted Trump's energy policies in his statement while saying the Biden administration's policies "have plunged America into decline."
His endorsement comes as the Iowa caucus, the first presidential nominating contest, is less than a week away.
