Boebert blasts Buck over abrupt retirement: 'Gift to the uniparty'
Boebert is currently running for election to Buck's seat, which is widely regarded as a safer Republican-leaning district.
Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert on Wednesday excoriated Colorado GOP Rep. Ken Buck over his announcement that he would leave Congress at the end of next week.
"Ken Buck’s announcement yesterday was a gift to the Uniparty. The establishment concocted a swampy backroom deal to try to rig an election I’m winning by 25 points," she told The Hill. "Forcing an unnecessary Special Election on the same day as the Primary Election will confuse voters, result in a lame duck Congressman on day one, and leave the 4th District with no representation for more than three months. The 4th District deserves better."
Buck had previously indicated he would not seek reelection in 2024. His abrupt departure, however, will further reduce the narrow Republican majority in the lower chamber. Boebert is currently running for election to Buck's seat, which is widely regarded as a safer Republican-leaning district. His resignation will trigger a special election, however, in which Boebert will not participate.
She narrowly won reelection to a second term in 2022, though the 3rd District she currently represents is regarded as a tossup and the conservative firebrand was expected to face a tough race in 2024.
