Climate change activists attempt to destroy Van Gogh painting while protesting fossil fuels
Painting was covered with glass and not damaged.
Two climate activists in London this week attempted to destroy a painting by famed artist Vincent Van Gogh in an apparent protest against fossil fuels.
Video circulating on social media showed the attempted destruction of Van Gogh's "Sunflowers," hanging at the National Gallery in downtown London.
The protesters, wearing what appeared to be "Just Stop Oil" T-shirts, splashed two cans of what appeared to be tomato soup on the painting before sitting down and apparently gluing their hands to the wall.
The National Gallery later told media that the painting was protected by glass and was ultimately unharmed by the vandalism.
Metropolitan Police, meanwhile, said the activists had been "arrested for criminal damage and aggravated trespass."
