Moderna on Thursday asked the Food and Drug Administration to authorize its COVID-19 vaccine for children under 6, according to several news reports.
The FDA is expected to make a final decision in June on the vaccine, which if approved would be available to children as young as 6 months.
Children under 5 are the only group in the U.S. ineligible to receive a COVID vaccine, according to NBC News.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is available to anyone as young as 5, while Moderna and Johnson & Johnson's shots are available only to adults, the news outlet also reports.
