Ticketmaster may soon implement digital COVID vaccine verification system for concerts

Ticketmaster may soon implement a system in which customers could be required to provide either a negative COVID-19 test result or proof that they have obtained a COVID-19 vaccination prior to attending a concert or event through the platform.

The company, founded in 1976 and a pioneer in digital ticket sales, is considering implementing third-party reporting software that would confirm a customer's vaccinated status before they would be permitted to purchase certain tickets through the service. 

Ticketmaster confirmed in a statement that it is currently exploring that technology, and that any vaccination or test requirements would be set by concert organizers and not the ticket company itself.

The system could also allow users to present a negative COVID-19 test, via a digital "health pass," in order to gain access to concerts. 

Public health officials say a COVID-19 vaccine is likely to start distribution early next year.

Update: Earlier reports indicated that Ticketmaster would be implementing a vaccine verification system and making it mandatory. The company has clarified that the system is still in development and that any such requirements would be set by event vendors, not Ticketmaster itself.
