Cruz and Crenshaw fire back after O'Rourke scoffs at Gov. Abbott tweet about reopening Texas
Gov. Abbott tweeted that "Texas is Opening Safe, Smart and Strong;" O'Rourke countered with mockery.
Texas legislators Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Dan Crenshaw responded after Beto O'Rourke commented on a tweet from Gov. Greg Abbott regarding the state reopening.
"Texas is Opening Safe, Smart and Strong," the Republican governor wrote when posting a video on Twitter.
"Dangerous, Dumb and Weak," O'Rourke shot back. O'Rourke dropped out of the Democratic presidential primary race in 2019 and previously served as a congressman from Texas.
Senator Ted Cruz, who defeated O'Rourke during a 2018 Senate race, jumped into the fray: "Is this the new Dem slogan?" he queried.
Lone Star state Rep. Dan Crenshaw said that O'Rourke's comment referred to all Texans.
"What a condescending reaction," Crenshaw wrote. "The guy who wanted to be Texas’s Senator truly believes Texans can’t make decisions for themselves and that they are 'dumb and weak' for living their lives and trying to feed their families.
"And yes, he’s talking to all Texans, not just our governor. Governor Abbott can’t force anyone to go back to work. Texans are choosing to do that, despite what people like Beto scream from their ivory towers."
