Reid Hoffman, the billionaire Democratic megadonor and Linked-In co-founder, has contributed $250,000 to a super PAC supporting Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley.

The New York Times first reported the contribution to SFA Fund Inc., asserting that Hoffman's staff previously contacted the super PAC to confirm that it would accept a donation from a pro-Biden donor. Hoffman political advisor Dmitri Mehlhorn confirmed the donation to The Hill.

Haley currently sits in a close-third position for the Republican nomination with 10.2% in the RealClearPolitics polling average, just 3.0% behind Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, by 51.1% behind former President Donald Trump.

Hoffman's financial backing of the Haley-aligned group comes after Americans for Prosperity, Charles Koch's campaign group, endorsed Haley after previously stating it would not support Trump.

"In sharp contrast to recent elections that were dominated by the negative baggage of Donald Trump and in which good candidates lost races that should have been won, Nikki Haley, at the top of the ticket, would boost candidates up and down the ballot, winning the key independent and moderate voters that Trump has no chance to win," the group said.
