Billionaires putting their money towards an 'anti-woke' university: report
The University of Austin has a mission to seek the “fearless pursuit of truth." It was founded in 2021 and has recently welcomed its inaugural class of 92 students.
Billionaire investors are putting their money behind an "anti-woke" university in Texas as many colleges and universities continue to get more and more progressive, and more woke.
Trader Jeff Yass is currently the largest donor, at $35 million, to the University of Austin, also called UATX, of the approximately $200 million raised so far. Other major donors include real-estate developer Harlan Crow and investor Len Blavatnik, according to an exclusive report from The Wall Street Journal.
Crow has been known to back GOP causes and political candidates.
“Much of higher ed today seems to want to reject Western accomplishments and the accomplishments of Western civilizations in their entirety,” Crow said, according to the outlet. “Many people think that’s a bad idea.”
UATX says it isn't partisan and has a mission to seek the “fearless pursuit of truth." It was founded in 2021 and has recently welcomed its inaugural class of 92 students.
Students were reportedly given a copy of Homer’s Odyssey when they enrolled and the school focuses a lot on entrepreneurship.
Other billionaires such as Marc Rowan and Bill Ackman have been going after Ivy League presidents for not being tough enough on antisemitism following the Hamas attack on Israel that occurred Oct. 7 last year and the ensuing encampments and other disruptions that have created so much turmoil on campuses across the country.
A video on the school’s YouTube page shows scenes of anti-Israel protests and encampments at other schools contrasted with a civil UATX seminar. The message at the end of the video is, “They burn, we build.”
