DeSantis, Florida GOP transforming higher education by going after woke ideology

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his fellow Republicans are transforming education in their state by targeting woke ideology taught in schools.
DeSantis has pushed a bill that would allow parents to sue schools over the teaching of critical race theory, according to Politico.
"Nobody wants this crap," DeSantis said at a press conference in 2021 to support the "Stop WOKE Act."
"This is an elite-driven phenomenon being driven by bureaucratic elites, elites in universities and elites in corporate America," the Florida governor said. "And they're trying to shove it down the throats of the American people. You're not doing that in the state of Florida."
The bill was blocked by a federal judge in August.
"If Florida truly believes we live in a post-racial society, then let it make its case," the judge wrote, according to NBC News. "But it cannot win the argument by muzzling its opponents."
Politico reports that DeSantis is also going after "corporate-sanctioned racism."
"How is it not a hostile work environment to be attacking people based on their race, or telling them that they are privileged or that they're part of oppressive systems, when all they're doing is showing up to work and trying to earn a living?" DeSantis said in a statement, according to Politico.
