Cheney suggests to Arizona voters they vote Democrat against GOP governor nominee Lake

Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney – largely censured by her party for helping lead the Democrat-led House Jan. 6 committee – is now campaigning against Arizona's GOP governor and secretary of state nominees – each endorsed by former President Trump.

"I don't know that I have ever voted for a Democrat, but if I lived in Arizona now, I absolutely would ... for governor and for secretary of state," Cheney said Wednesday night at a political event at Arizona State University, according to NBC News.

"If you care about democracy and you care about the survival of our republic, then you need to understand – we all have to understand – that we cannot give people power who have told us that they will not honor elections," she also said. 

The event was put on by the McCain Institute, a think tank named for the late Arizona GOP Sen. John McCain. 

Cheney was handily defeated this summer in her bid for reelection in Wyoming, as the state's lone House member, after the state GOP censured her for being co-chairperson of the Jan. 6 committee.

She lost her primary bid to Trump-backed lawyer Harriet Hageman, who is expected to win the general election, considering Wyoming is among the most conservative states in the country. 

Arizona's Republican gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake told Fox News last week that Cheney's promise to campaign against her "might be the biggest, best gift I’ve ever received."

"She’s putting more energy into electing Democrats than she did into winning her own primary lol," Lake also tweeted.

Republican secretary of state nominee Mark Finchem also has previously called Cheney  "Ly'in Liz."
