Fetterman's requested closed captioning also visible to his opponent Dr. Oz during debate
Fetterman suffered a stroke in May and is recovering.
Democratic Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman's debate closed captioning was also visible to his opponent, Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz, on Tuesday evening.
Fetterman requested the presence of the monitor during the candidates' first and only debate.
One screen showed the questions and Oz's answers were visible on the other monitor.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Harrisburg-based TV studio "hosting the debate has said the only text appearing on the monitor will be transcriptions of the moderator’s questions and Oz’s responses. The monitors will also be visible to both Fetterman and Republican opponent Mehmet Oz."
In his opening statement, Fetterman started off the debate saying "goodnight" and later explained to viewers that he might make mistakes during the evening due to his stroke.
