GOP sharpens a new attack line: What Biden is doing to America is 'intentional'
From the border to inflated gas prices, Republicans now see a deliberate plan to alter the republic after months of suggesting Biden was clueless.
Rep. Jim Jordan is never one to mince words. So when asked why President Joe Biden was willing to risk children losing their federally subsidized school lunches just to force schools to adopt new LGBTQ-plus agendas, the Ohio Republican gave a razor sharp answer.
"It makes no sense," Jordan told Just the News during an interview Friday on the John Solomon Reports podcast. "That tells you this is intentional."
After more than a year of attacking Biden as a commander in chief who is bumbling, incompetent, prone to foot-in-mouth, rambling until he is lost, and mentally challenged, Republicans have changed tack as they head into crucial midterm elections that will determine control of Congress.
Now, the most unpopular features of the current American scene — high gas and food prices, transgender mandates and the open border among them — are relentlessly painted as part of the president's and Democrats' deliberate policies.
"The wide-open 'border' is no accident," columnist and London Center fellow Deroy Murdock wrote in a column earlier this year. "It is deliberate. This is not a sign of incompetence. It is a reflection of [Biden's] relentless, intentional destruction of the southern 'frontier.'"
After Biden's administration canceled drilling leases in the Gulf and blocked energy exploration in an oil-rich part of Alaska, gas and oil prices creeped up almost daily for two straight weeks.
Former President Donald Trump's spokesman had a short explanation for the outcome.
"It's intentional," Liz Harrington declared.
House Minority Whip Steve Scalise expounded in a recent statement, noting Biden approved a pipeline for Russia but blocked one for America.
"It's not that he's against all pipelines," Scalise said. "As my colleagues have pointed out, he approved Russia's pipeline, the Nord Stream 2, which builds on top of the Nord Stream 1, which was already supplying Russian oil to parts of Europe. We could have been there to provide all of the oil and gas that Europe needs. And instead, Biden turned off the spigots here and sent leverage to Putin."
But Biden's not fooling anyone, Scalise suspects. "People get this," he said. "As [GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik] said, 'The American people are smarter than Joe Biden gives them credit for.' They know it's Biden's policies — anti-American energy policies — that have led to this skyrocketing sticker shock at the pump, where it costs over $150, in some cases, to fill your car."
When Republicans first suggested Biden's energy plan was to force Americans into clean energy and electric cars, it got labeled by the mainstream media as a conspiracy theory. But then Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris both made statements suggesting high prices were part of an intentional transition.
"When it comes to the gas prices, we're going through an incredible transition that is taking place that, God willing, when it's over, we'll be stronger and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels," the president said during a trip to Tokyo late last month.
Harris doubled down on the idea. "Our transportation sector has reached a turning point," the vice president said recently. "We are all in the midst of a turning point. We have the technology to transition to a zero-emission fleet. Our administration — together, all of us — is working to make that possibility a reality."
Now, even the Washington Post opinion pages are willing to publish articles declaring high gas prices are what Biden wants to foster such a transition.
In other words, the media has come a long way.
In Friday's interview, Jordan said he believed Biden and his Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen intentionally misled the American people into believing inflation was transitory so Democrats could achieve all of their federal spending objectives and only now are admitting the truth.
"Janet Yellen said this week, 'We were surprised that we had this kind of inflation. We didn't really see it coming,'" Jordan said. "And I'm like, how could you not see it coming? You spent like crazy. You paid people not to work, and you drove up the cost of energy.
"And somehow you're surprised that we now have a record inflation level. There's no way she's that stupid. So for her to say that just sort of reinforces what I've long now believed ... this is intentional."
Deliberate and intentional. Two words you can expect Republicans to utter a lot more as they make the case that what ails America now isn't an accident. It's Joe Biden's design.
