Trump-backed Sam Brown win Nevada GOP Senate primary by double digits
Trump has touted Brown as an American patriot, and praised him for his previous service to the country. Brown is an Army veteran, who received the Purple Heart for his service in Afghanistan. He sustained third-degree burns during his tours, according to CBS News.
Sam Brown, former President Donald Trump's choice for the Republican Senate primary in Nevada, defeated former United States ambassador to Iceland Jeff Gunter for the party's nomination on Tuesday night, according to the Associated Press.
Brown, an Army veteran, won with over 59% of the vote, according to Politico.
Trump endorsed Brown on Sunday, giving him the final boost he needed to secure the party's nomination. Brown was already considered the frontrunner for the nomination, but faced a significant challenge from Gunter, who had the backing of some of Trump's allies. Gunter had served as the ambassador to Iceland during the Trump administration.
The former president touted Brown as an American patriot, and praised him for his previous service to the country. Brown is an Army veteran, who received the Purple Heart for his service in Afghanistan. He sustained third-degree burns during his tours, according to CBS News.
"Sam Brown is a FEARLESS AMERICAN PATRIOT, a Purple Heart Recipient, who has proven he has the 'PURE GRIT and COURAGE to take on our Enemies, both Foreign and Domestic," Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social.
Brown is expected to face incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen in November, when Republicans hope to flip the Senate. However, Republicans have not won a Senate seat in Nevada since 2012, but they did win the governorship last year.
