Kathy Hochul slams Trump's status as a New Yorker in Democratic convention speech
Hochul said that she was proud of her background as a New Yorker because of the values that were instilled in her growing up, which she saw reflected in Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, and her running-mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday slammed former President Donald Trump and his status as a New Yorker, claiming he did not have the same ideals that other people in her state did.
Trump, who is the Republican nominee for president this year, was born in New York but primarily lives in Palm Beach, Florida, at his Mar-a-Lago resort now.
Hochul said that she was proud of her background as a New Yorker because of the values that were instilled in her growing up, which she saw reflected in Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
"I'm proud of my roots and the values I learned: grit, determination, compassion. Those values have always defined the people of my state. Well, most of us, anyway." Hochul told the audience. "“Donald Trump was born a New Yorker but ended up a fraud, a philanderer, and a felon. Trust me America, if you think you're tired of Donald Trump, talk to a New Yorker. We've had to deal with him for 78 long years."
The governor accused Trump of lying and engaging in criminal behavior in New York for decades, and claimed he continued to do so in the White House.
"Trump hasn't spent much time in New York lately, except to get convicted of 34 felonies," she added.
Hochul concluded by endorsing Harris and Walz, claiming that while Trump promised to bring jobs to New York, the Biden administration actually did so.
