Major DeSantis donor holds off funding, calls on governor to appeal more to moderates
“He does need to shift to get to moderates. He’ll lose if he doesn’t," donor Bigelow said.
Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis' largest donor to his presidential campaign said he would put a pause on donating to his campaign until there were some changes to it.
Hotel entrepreneur Robert Bigelow, who has already donated about $20 million to the DeSantis "Never Back Down" PAC, has announced he was halting his donations, according to the New York Post.
“Not until I see that he’s able to generate more on his own. I’m already too big a percentage,” Bigelow said, according to the news outlet. “A lot of his donors are still on the fence.”
DeSantis has consistently been coming in second place in multiple political polls behind former President Donald Trump.
“He does need to shift to get to moderates. He’ll lose if he doesn’t," Bigelow said, referring to DeSantis. "Extremism isn’t going to get you elected."
He also reportedly criticized DeSantis' six week abortion ban, saying it would alienate moderates.
