Nikki Haley tells Iowa voters her border policy will ban funding for sanctuary cities
Democrats typically support sanctuary cities, while Republicans oppose them.
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley told Iowa voters on Saturday that her border policy would ban federal funding to sanctuary cities that harbor illegal immigrants.
Haley made the comments during an interview with Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds as many of the big-name GOP presidential candidates descended on the annual Iowa State Fair this weekend.
“We will come and we will finally deal with the border," Haley said. "First of all, we will make sure we defund sanctuary cities once and for all."
“Sanctuary cities" are typically Democrat run municipalities that harbor illegal immigrants, often providing them taxpayer funded benefits. They have become a favorite target of Republicans.
