Oklahoma Republican lawmaker told he cannot be listed on ballot as 'The Patriot'
Oklahoma GOP Rep. Sean Roberts is running for state labor commissioner, says might appealing ruling
A Republican politician in Oklahoma was told by the Oklahoma Election Board that he cannot use the name "The Patriot" on the ballot.
State GOP Rep. Sean Roberts was told Monday that he will still be able to run for Oklahoma Labor commissioner but won't be allowed to refer to himself by that nickname.
State election rules permit candidates to use a nickname if it is a moniker the candidate it generally known by, or if it is the name he or she does business under. In this case, Roberts' Republican opponent, Leslie Osborn, says there is no indication that Roberts is known as "The Patriot."
Osborn's petition additionally points out that in his seven previous elections, Roberts has appeared on the ballot as either Kevin Sean Roberts or Sean Roberts.
Roberts said he is considering appealing the board's decision.
