Poll shows Zeldin pulling ahead of Hochul in New York governor's race

A new poll out on Friday shows New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin inching ahead of Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul, a sign that the race may come down to razor-thin margins when the election is held early next month. 

The poll, released by data firm co/efficient, shows Zeldin holding a one-point lead over Hochul among likely general election voters, 46% to 45%.

Cross-tabs of the poll showed Zeldin capturing significant portions of the 45-64 age group, as well as a majority of Hispanic voters and a considerable share of independents. 

Co/efficient pollster Ryan Munce told the New York Post that the outfit "still expect[s] to see measurable movement in the statewide electorate" in the weeks leading up to the race.

"[I]f the trend continues, New York could have its first Republican governor since 2006," he told the outlet.
