Head of Project 2025 to step down from post
Although Dans will be stepping down at the end of the month, the group will not be disbanded. However, a replacement for Dans has not been announced so far.
The pro-Donald Trump director of the conservative Project 2025 agenda is stepping down from his post, the Heritage Foundation shared on Tuesday, after two years on the project.
Trump, who is running for president again this November as the Republican nominee, has been distancing himself from the group, labeling it as "seriously extreme" and conceived by people on the "severe right," according to Axios.
The group is led by director Paul Dans, who was part of Trump's first administration, and orchestrated by the Heritage Foundation. The project was originally expected to finish its policy drafts after the Democratic and Republican conventions, which it still plans to do.
"Under Paul Dans' leadership, Project 2025 has completed exactly what it set out to do: bringing together over 110 leading conservative organizations to create a unified conservative vision, motivated to devolve power from the unelected administrative state, and returning it to the people," Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts said in a statement, per CBS News. "This tool was built for any future administration to use."
Dans' exit comes as Democrats heat up their attacks on the 900-page report, which Vice President Kamala Harris claimed proved Trump was trying to "take our country backward." Even after Trump and his campaign has attempted to distance the former president from the policies.
"Reports of Project 2025’s demise would be greatly welcomed and should serve as notice to anyone or any group trying to misrepresent their influence with President Trump and his campaign— it will not end well for you," campaign senior advisors Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita said.
Although Dans will be stepping down at the end of the month, the group will not be disbanded. However, a replacement for Dans has not been announced so far.
