Rep. Rashida Tlaib refuses to endorse Harris at Michigan rally over the issue of support for Israel
She was critical of Trump as well as the Biden-Harris administration. Trump has recently been endorsed by the Muslim mayors of Dearborn Heights and Hamtramck, among other Arab Americans.
During a rally in Detroit on Friday, Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib refused the chance to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president. With the importance placed on Michigan as part of the so called “blue wall” of states that Democrats believe they must win to secure the election, her snub of Harris could prove to be a significant problem for Democrats, according to the New York Post.
Tlaib is a member of the far-left “Squad” in the U.S. House, who are all upset with the Biden-Harris administration for their support of Israel in their war against Hamas. Tlaib, the only Palestinian-American in Congress, is also the only member of the Squad who has not endorsed Harris for president.
She was censured in the House last year for defending Hamas and calling for the destruction of Israel, according to the New York Post. The vote to censure was 234 to 188, with 22 Democrats joining 212 Republicans, while four Republicans voted against the resolution.
The rally Friday was a United Auto Workers (UAW) union rally with the intent of getting union members to the polls, according to The Detroit News.
In a speech focused on down ballot races, Tlaib said, "Don't underestimate the power you all have," adding, "More than those ads, those lawn signs, those billboards, you all have more power to turn out people that understand we've got to fight back against corporate greed in our country."
She was critical of Trump as well as the Biden-Harris administration. Trump has recently been endorsed by the Muslim mayors of Dearborn Heights and Hamtramck, among other Arab Americans, according to the outlet.
"Trump is a proud Islamophobe + serial liar who doesn't stand for peace," Tlaib wrote on X. "The reality is that the Biden admin’s unconditional support for genocide is what got us here. This should be a wake-up call for those who continue to support genocide. This election didn't have to be close."
