RFK Jr predicts Trump will lose some support from independents in wake of debate
Kennedy said that he expects there will be a small dip in support for Trump from swing voters in polls next week, which could prove critical heading into the November election, where the presidency is expected to predominantly come down to seven battleground states.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Wednesday predicted that former President Donald Trump would lose some support from independent voters after he allowed himself to be distracted during Tuesday night's presidential debate.
Trump debated Vice President Kamala Harris for more than 90 minutes in Philadelphia on Tuesday, where both campaigns have claimed their candidate was the victor. No other debates are currently scheduled, but Harris' campaign have requested a second debate in October.
Kennedy predicted that there will be a small dip in support for Trump from swing voters in polls next week, which could prove critical heading into the November election, where the presidency is expected to predominantly come down to seven battleground states.
"I would suspect that the polling of the next week is going to show, probably, a slight drop in his support, particularly among independents," Kennedy told Fox News host Neil Cavuto.
Kennedy claimed Harris won the debate in terms of delivery and preparedness, but that he was still supporting Trump because of the substance of what he was saying and his governance. Kennedy endorsed Trump for president last month.
“[Trump] got distracted, and I think it’s unfortunate,” Kennedy said. “I think he really had an airtight argument for his presidency, but he wasn’t able to make that case to the American public.”
Kennedy said Trump could have argued in the first question that there was poor leadership under the Biden administration, because there are now wars in the Middle East and Europe, and the United States has a higher poverty rate than under his administration.
“All of these things can be attributed to poor leadership from the Biden-Harris team, and that’s the argument that he should have been making,” Kennedy said.
