House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday endorsed fellow Democrat Joe Biden for president.

Pelosi’s support, in a Twitter video post, is the most recent in a series of endorsements that the presumptive Democratric nominee has strategically rolled out over the past several weeks – as his presidential campaign remains largely sidelined because of the coronavirus.

"I'm proud to endorse Joe Biden for president of the United States because he will be an extraordinary president," said Pelosi, a California lawmaker, establishment leader and highest-ranking member of her party. "He knows how to get the job done."

Pelosi touted Biden's behind-the-scenes effectiveness and years of legislative experience as key assets of the "battle tested leader," who will "fight for the people."

Biden was a top Senate Democrat before serving all eight years as President Barack Obama's vice president. Obama endorsed Biden in recent days.

Last week during an interview with MSNBC, the speaker said she was fully "satisfied" with the Biden campaign's denial of allegations that in 1993 then-Senator Biden sexually assaulted his aide Tara Reade. "I am very much involved in this issue. I always want to give the opportunity that women deserve to be heard. I am satisfied with his answer, yes," said Pelosi.

Over the weekend, videotape of a 1993 episode of "Larry King Live" surfaced that contains a call allegedly placed by Tara Reade's late mother, alluding to her experience with Senator Biden.
