Trump campaign to resume rallies within weeks
The RNC expects the rallies to be in-person events
The 2020 Trump reelection campaign will resume public rallies two weeks, and the Republican National Committee intends to decide within a week on where to hold its summer nominating convention, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said Tuesday.
McDaniel told Fox News that she expects the rallies will be in-person events – not virtual or drive-in events, but with coronavirus social-distancing guidelines being followed.
“They’ll have some precautions in place,” she said. “People want to get out.”
The committee and the 2020 Trump campaign have been scrambling over roughly the past week to find a convention site, after North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper said he couldn't predict the status of the virus in August, when the event was scheduled to take place in Charlotte in August. So organizers should plan for a scaled down convention with fewer people, he said.
The RNC and the campaign have since been visiting other states to find an alternative site – in what will be a dash to pull together an event in August that typically takes months and years of planning. Florida, Oklahoma and Tennessee are among the states being mentioned.
