Trump makes presidential immunity argument in bid to dismiss Georgia election case

Trump's arguments in the state case echo the same immunity claims his defense team made in his federal election case.

Former President Donald Trump argued in a court filing Monday that Georgia criminal charges against him should be dismissed because he is protected under presidential immunity.

The arguments Trump's attorneys presented in a Fulton County Court filing Monday against the state charges echo the same immunity claims his defense team made in his federal election case, as both involve his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election in his favor.

While neither case has been dismissed on immunity grounds, Trump's immunity arguments are already playing out in a federal appeals court and may eventually reach the Supreme Court.
