Senate panel votes overwhelmingly for Trump’s nominations for Interior and Energy secretaries
Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said that with those nominees heading their respective departments, the agencies will “finally have leadership they need to reverse the damage done by the Biden administration.”
The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted Thursday to forward two of President Donald Trump’s nominees.
North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum’s nomination for secretary of the Interior and Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright’s nomination for Energy secretary will now go to the Senate floor for consideration.
Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said that with those nominees heading their respective departments, the agencies will “finally have leadership they need to reverse the damage done by the Biden administration.”
Lee also said Wright and Burgum are “committed to implementing President Trump’s plan to unleash American energy by ending policies of climate alarmism and extremism.”
Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., voted in favor of forwarding the nominations, saying they are each qualified for the positions, but said he did not agree with all of their positions.
“I strongly disagree with Mr. Wright's claim that climate change does not pose an existential threat to humanity,” Heinrich said.
Their confirmations will be debated on the Senate floor at a later date, and they’ll need a majority of senators to be confirmed.
