Almost a million homes in southeast still without power in Hurricane Helene aftermath
Vice President Kamala Harris visited Georgia on Wednesday and the Carolinas to show support for those impacted by the storm.
Almost a million homes across the southeast remain without power in the aftermath of the Category 4 Hurricane Helene.
The storm has greatly impacted the southeast, especially the Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee. More than 184 people have died.
Thousands of residents, specifically in western North Carolina, are still without running water, according to USA Today.
Both Republican and Democratic senators from the affected states wrote a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., saying the damage was going to cost tens of billions of dollars.
Vice President Kamala Harris visited Georgia on Wednesday and the Carolinas to show support for those impacted by the storm.
"While in Augusta, Georgia today, I spoke with people impacted by Hurricane Helene. I also received briefings from those who are working around the clock to help folks on the ground," Harris wrote on the social media platform, X. "We will continue to do everything we can to help communities recover."
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis earlier this week sent the Florida national guard to North Carolina to assist in the recovery effort.
