Tropical Storm Idalia triggers storm surge warnings in Florida ahead of likely landfall
The storm is expected to bring hurricane conditions to portions of Florida's western coast.
The National Hurricane Center has warned of a "life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds" stemming from the likely Florida landfall of Tropical Storm Idalia.
"Tropical Storm #Idalia Advisory 8: Storm Surge and Hurricane Warnings Issued For Portions of The West Coast of Florida. Life-Threatening Storm Surge and Dangerous Winds Becoming Increasingly Likely For Portions of Florida," the NHC posted on Monday.
The storm is expected to bring hurricane conditions to portions of Florida's western coast. Idalia is expected to become a hurricane on Monday.
"Strong winds will spread inland across portions of northern Florida near the track of the center of Idalia," reads an NHC advisory. Idalia is currently traversing western Cuba, where it is expected to bring hurricane-force winds and heavy rainfall.
Concurrent with Idalia's approach toward the United States is the northern trek of Hurricane Franklin, which reached category 4 on Monday.
