Everybody loves Brian: Kemp approval up to 58% in Georgia
During Kemp's 2022 reelection campaign, Trump backed former Republican Sen. David Perdue's primary challenge to unseat him, though that effort was ultimately unsuccessful.
While Gov. Brian Kemp, R-Ga., remains at loggerheads with former President Donald Trump over alleged election fraud in the Peach State, his constituents appear quite satisfied with his job performance.
The Georgia governor earned a 58% approval rating in his home state, included 19% who strongly approved of his performance and 39% who somewhat supported him. 37% disapproved of his job performance, including 20% who somewhat disapprove of him and 17% who strongly did, according to a SurveyUSA poll.
Kemp's net approval of 21% stands well above that of Trump, though the former president also earned favorable marks for his time in office. The former president received 51% support for his job performance while in office, while 45% disapproved.
Conducted Aug. 15-16, the survey questioned 554 registered voters and has a margin of error of +/-5.2%.
The positive ratings for both figures come as they continue to trade barbs with each other over the governor's refusal to endorse Trump's claims that election fraud flipped the state for President Joe Biden in 2020.
"The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen," Kemp said this week. "For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward - under oath - and prove anything in a court of law. Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor. The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus."
