Florida Bar claims it 'erroneously' stated Halligan under investigation

The Florida Bar Association on Friday stated that it inaccurately asserted that there was an ongoing investigation into former acting U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan and that no such probe was ongoing.

The Bar Association told the Campaign for Accountability, which filed ethics complaints against Halligan, that it was aware of the issues and reviewing them. After multiple outlets reported that the investigation was underway, however, the Bar Association issued a statement asserting that it made the claim "erroneously."

“In response to an inquiry from a complainant, The Florida Bar wrote a letter to the complainant erroneously stating that there is a pending Bar investigation of member Lindsay Halligan,” Bar Association Communications Director Jennifer Krell Davis said, according to The Hill. “There is no such pending Bar investigation of Lindsay Halligan... In this case, The Florida Bar received a complaint against Lindsay Halligan and, consistent with standard practice, the Bar is monitoring the ongoing legal proceedings underlying the complaint.”

The Campaign for Accountability said in a statement obtained by Just the News that "CfA has not heard directly from the Florida Bar, but it’s hard to reconcile this latest statement with the bar counsel’s previous letter saying there is an investigation pending. If there is no longer an investigation into Halligan, the question is why not, given that three judges indicated she engaged in conduct that appears to violate ethics rules."

Halligan was Trump's choice to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. She received the post after Trump quarreled with the previously officeholder over bringing charges against his political opponents.

Halligan ultimately brought cases against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, but a judge tossed both after finding that she was illegally occupying her position.
