Former NYC Mayor de Blasio lobbying Biden for labor secretary cabinet nod
De Blasio ran New York City from 2014-2021, during which time he also campaigned for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination in the 2020 cycle.
Former New York City Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio is reportedly lobbying President Joe Biden to appoint him secretary of labor once current officeholder Marty Walsh vacates the post.
Walsh's departure became public earlier this month. He will move on to become the executive director of the National Hockey League Players' Association.
"The mayor has had his eye on the Biden administration for a long time and now he sees an opening and he's making his case for labor secretary to the White House," said "a source familiar with the matter" to the New York Post. "He's calling friends in the Biden administration to help make his case and push his candidacy."
De Blasio ran New York City from 2014-2021, during which time he also campaigned for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination in the 2020 cycle. He failed to gain significant traction and dropped out in mid-2019.
