As New York mulls a law to require that restaurants serving a travel plaza on the state's Thruway system stay open every day of the week, concerns have mounted that it could force some Chick-fil-A restaurants to go against their longstanding policy of staying closed on Sundays, and at least one Republican is livid.

"As if the insanity by the left couldn’t get any worse, Democrats in New York are trying to force [Chick-fil-A] to open on Sundays… I showed up to their Manhattan location today while visiting NYC to send a clear message: Hands off OUR Chick-Fil-A!" South Carolina GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham posted on Friday, along with a photo of himself outside a Manhattan location of the franchise.

"This is war," he further posted. "If this goes forward, I will be introducing legislation withholding federal funds from any city or state that requires [Chick-fil-A] to stay open on Sunday."

"The founders of Chick-fil-A made a decision early on to close on Sunday, consistent with their faith," he continued. "For any government to try to reverse this decision flies in the face of who we are as Americans. Chick-fil-A is a great company with thousands of locations serving the public with a quality product and taking care of their employees. New York is off base and their actions will not go unanswered."

Originating in Georgia, the Cathy family's renowned fast food franchise has become a staple of American eating.
