Second Amendment group says McConnell, Cornyn contributing to gun control as much as Biden
Pratt acknowledged that the Democrat Party restricting the second amendment
Gun Owners of America's Erich Pratt said Wednesday that GOP Sens. Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn have contributed just as much to restricting Second Amendment rights as President Joe Biden.
"Biden is the villain here because he's slashing our Second Amendment," Pratt said on the John Solomon Reports podcast. "But so are Senators John Cornyn and Mitch McConnell because they pushed the legislation last year that Biden is now implementing as the executive order Certain Republicans share part of the blame as well."
Last year, Cornyn, of Texas, and Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky, got behind the "Bipartisan Safer Communities Act" which enhanced background checks for gun buyers under 21 and made legal the removal of guns from those with a history of domestic abuse.
The bill passed the Senate 230-190 in May 2022.
Months after the Lunar Year mass shooting in Monterey Park, California, President Biden announced Tuesday a new plan to address gun violence in America.
According to the president, his new order will order the Justice Department to increase background checks for those trying to purchase guns, as well as promote safer storage for firearms.
"California has universal background checks, which is exactly what Biden is trying to accomplish with this executive action," Pratt said. "But they have so-called assault weapon bans, and they have red flag gun confiscation laws. I mean, California has imposed everything that Joe Biden is seeking to implement and yet it doesn't work."
Pratt said that restrictive gun laws cause more harm than good.
"Gun control only disarms good guys, whereas criminals always ignore the laws and still get guns," he concluded.
