Florida Republican Rep. Greg Steube is hospitalized in an intensive care unit after he was "knocked" about 25 feet off of a ladder while cutting tree limbs, his office said Thursday.

"The Congressman was knocked approximately 25 feet down off a ladder while cutting tree limbs on his Sarasota property yesterday afternoon," Steube's office wrote on the congressman's official Twitter account.

"The Congressman spent the night in the ICU where several serious injuries are still under assessment but not life threatening at this time. He is making progress and in good spirits," his office said, without specifying the full extent of his injuries.

Steube's team thanked the medical professionals taking care of him, the person who witnessed the fall and called 911, the first responders who assisted him and the "members of the media who waited patiently to accurately report the incident before releasing falsities to the public."

Updates about Steube's condition will be posted on his official Twitter account, his staff said.

Initial reports stated that Steube was injured after falling off his roof.

"Congressman Steube was involved in an accident on his property late this afternoon and has sustained several injuries," a Wednesday tweet from his account announced. "We will provide additional updates when possible. Please pray for the Congressman and his family."

Replies to the tweet were filled with well wishes Steube, who is serving his third term in Congress, received well wishes from political figures on both sides of the aisle, including Illinois Democrat Rep. Eric Sorensen and fellow Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds
