Polis issues disaster emergency after avian flu outbreak, leading to death of 1.8 million chickens

Colorado Governor Jared Polis declared a disaster emergency on Tuesday after an avian flu outbreak at a commercial egg facility.
Close to 1.8 million chickens will have to be "culled, or selectively slaughtered" due to the outbreak, according to a local news report.
Samples from the egg producer in Weld County tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
