'Kamalanomics': Trump campaign, GOP races to tie Harris to weak jobs report
Unemployment rose from 4.1% in June to 4.3% in July.
The Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) have seized upon Friday's adverse economic data, hoping to link Vice President Kamala Harris with President Joe Biden and his stewardship of the U.S. economy.
Unemployment rose from 4.1% in June to 4.3% in July, the latest jobs report revealed, with the U.S. economy adding 114,000 jobs, significantly fewer than analysts had predicted.
"Kamala Harris has proudly and repeatedly celebrated her role as Joe Biden’s co-pilot on ‘Bidenomics,'" Trump Campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a press release. "She cast tie-breaking votes in the Senate for spending that put inflation on steroids, and despite the evidence that America’s working families are hurting she tells us these failed plans are working. The basic necessities of food, gas and housing are less affordable, unemployment is rising, and Kamala doesn’t seem to care."
The RNC, for its part, referred to the situation as a product of "Kamalanomics," rebranding the "Bidenomics" label to address Trump's likely opponent in November. In that press release, the RNC highlighted the disparity between job loss for domestic American workers and job growth for the foreign born.
"Foreign-born workers, meanwhile, are thriving in Kamala's economy," the RNC stated. "1.2 million native-born Americans lost employment over the last year, while 1.3 million foreign-born workers found jobs."
"Does anyone really think Kamala can handle a recession? She can't even handle taking a question from the press," it concluded.
