Kevin McCarthy demands AG Garland hand over docs on FBI's Mar-a-Lago raid, testify
"This unprecedented and shocking act should have necessitated timely and meaningful engagement with Congress"
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Friday sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland asking that he and FBI Director Christopher Wray testify over the FBI's raid of Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate as well as provide documents related to the investigation.
Also signing the letter were House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Mike Turner, R-Ohio, Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Oversight Committee Ranking Member James Comer, R-Ky.
"This unprecedented and shocking act should have necessitated timely and meaningful engagement with Congress," the lawmakers wrote, before lamenting the DOJ's delayed briefings on the raid.
“The unprecedented nature of the FBI’s search of President Trump’s home and the broad public interest surrounding the raid require more than just a private briefing with the congressional and intelligence committee leadership,” they continued.

McCarthy and his Republican allies, currently in the minority, have little ability to compel Garland's cooperation. However, Republicans are widely expected to make gains in the House, where Democrats maintain a razor-thin majority. Should the GOP secure the lower chamber, they have already vowed to investigate the FBI's raid on the former president's estate.
