Lauren Boebert tied with Democratic rival in potential 2024 rematch: poll
She first came to office after winning her seat in the 2020 congressional elections.
Conservative firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., faces a tough reelection effort in 2024 after narrowly scraping by in a hotly contested 2022 midterm contest.
A recent survey shows Boebert and her 2022 challenger, Democrat Adam Frisch, tied at 45%. The poll comes from ProgressNow Colorado, a left-leaning group, which partnered with Global Strategy Group to produce the survey.
"Boebert has a very defined negative brand: voters see her as a far-right extremist who is out of touch and focused on the wrong things," the groups wrote. "As a result, even though the district tilts toward Republicans on the generic ballot by 11 points, Boebert is tied with Adam Frisch 45%-45%."
PNC called her "woefully out of step with her constituents," suggesting that Frisch might be able to capitalize on her negative ratings to surge ahead in a rematch. He has declared his candidacy for the seat, The Hill reported.
Conducted from March 29 to April 2, the survey questioned 500 likely voters and 100 unaffiliated likely voters in the district. It has a margin of error of +/- 4.4%.
Republicans currently hold a razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives, a situation that Boebert and her conservative peers in the chamber used to their advantage earlier this year to extract concessions from then-prospective House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Boebert herself never voted for McCarthy, and only voted "present" on the final vote.
A formidable challenger and her relatively strained relations with GOP leadership may place her in a difficult position come 2024. She first came to office after winning her seat in the 2020 congressional elections.
