Maryland Gov. Wes Moore to campaign in NC for Josh Stein
Incumbent Gov. Roy Cooper, for instance, managed to win the state in both 2016 and 2020, when Trump carried it at the national level.
Maryland Democratic Gov. Wes Moore plans to travel to North Carolina to campaign on behalf of Josh Stein, the party's gubernatorial nominee.
Stein will face Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson in the November contest and the race is regarded as being among the most competitive this cycle. Moore's campaign stump will come Tuesday, The Hill reported.
Robinson and Stein handily won their respective primaries in early March.
Polling data has varied considerably, with a High Point University survey showing Robinson up five points in late May. Another from Cook Political, meanwhile, showed the race tied. Survey data from this month has shown Robinson up 2% while yet another has shown Stein with a 1% lead.
Though the Old North State has typically leaned Republican in recent presidential cycles, boasts two GOP senators, and the party often controls the legislature, it is not entirely uncommon for Democrats to win the governor's mansion. Incumbent Gov. Roy Cooper, for instance, managed to win the state in both 2016 and 2020, when Trump carried it at the national level.
