Nicole Malliotakis asks SCOTUS to intervene in redistricting order
The New York appeal comes the same day that the Virginia Supreme Court permitted state Democrats to move forward with a referendum on redrawing their own districts in a way that would favor the incumbent party.
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., has asked the Supreme Court to intervene in litigation over her congressional district in the wake of an order for its redraw.
Her request comes as the Supreme Court is expected to issue a decision on the Voting Rights Act, which could dramatically alter the rules of racial representation in the process. A New York court previously ruled that Malliotakis's district had improperly disenfranchised black and hispanic voters, according to The Hill.
Malliotakis has asked the Supreme Court to maintain her district's current borders. The case is one of a multitude of redistricting legal showdowns as Republicans and Democrats work to shape the map in their favor for the 2026 midterms.
