Parents advocacy group Moms for Liberty apologizes for using Hitler quote in newsletter
The exact origin of the quote still remains unclear, but it has been attributed to a 1935 rally speech by Hitler.
A chapter of the conservative-leaning parent advocacy group Moms for Liberty is apologizing for using a quote attributed to Adolf Hitler in its inaugural newsletter and condemning the Nazi leader's actions.
The chapter, in Indiana's Hamilton County, on Thursday posted a revised version of the newsletter on Facebook after it had previously shared a version that featured the Hitler quote on its front cover, according to the Associated Press.
“We condemn Adolf Hitler’s actions and his dark place in human history,” read a statement from chapter Chairwoman Paige Miller on the cover of the revised newsletter. “We should not have quoted him in our newsletter and express our deepest apology.”
The first version included the quote, “He alone, who OWNS the youth, GAINS the future” and cited Hitler.
The exact origin of the quote still remains unclear, but it has been attributed to a 1935 rally speech by Hitler.
On Wednesday, the chapter updated the newsletter to add a “context” section, after the quote was flagged, then a day later removed those versions and posted its new copy of the newsletter, replacing the Hitler quote with the chair’s apology, the wire service also reports.
The quote has frequently been used by conservative Christian groups as a warning of “what they experience as liberal or left-wing attempts to indoctrinate children,” said Mark Pitcavage, senior research fellow at the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism, told the Associated Press.
