More Americans approve of Trump's second presidential transition than first: Poll
The new Gallup poll found that 51% of Americans support the way he has handled his second transition, up from 48% who approved in 2016. Just 44% said they disapprove of the transition.
A majority of American voters approve the way that President-elect Donald Trump has handled the transition to his second presidential administration, and by a higher number than his first transition, according to a poll published Friday.
The presidential transition refers to the period between the presidential election and Inauguration Day, when the incoming president selects his Cabinet and other key positions in his administration and outlines his immediate plans for the start of the four-year term.
The new Gallup poll found that 51% of Americans support the way Trump has handled this second transition, up from 48% who approved in 2016. Just 44% said they disapprove of the transition.
The poll also noted that the increase is because of a surge in support from the Republican Party. This year, 97% of Republicans support the way the incoming president has handled the transition, while 86% approved in 2016. Among Independent voters, there is only a one point increase, with 47% approving in 2024, compared to 46% in 2016.
The numbers for Trump are lower than other administrations. Sixty-eight percent approved of how President Joe Biden handled his transition, 83% approved of former President Barack Obama's transition in 2008, and 65% approved of former President George W. Bush's transition in January of 2001, according to The Hill.
The poll was conducted between Dec. 2 and Dec. 18 and surveyed 1,003 adults nationwide. It had a margin of error of plus and minus four percentage points, and a 95% confidence level.
