Trump's lead has widened considerably since April.

Former President Donald Trump is continuing to expand his lead in the 2024 Republican presidential primary after two indictments.

Most GOP voters, 51%, said they would vote for Trump if the primary were held today, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came in second with 22%, according to an NBC poll released Sunday.

Trump's lead has widened considerably since the last NBC poll in April, which showed he had 46% support in the GOP primary compared to DeSantis' 31%.

However, the poll also shows that in a rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden, Trump would lose with 45% to Biden's 49%. If Biden faces off against DeSantis, they would be tied at 47%.

The NBC poll comes after Trump was indicted earlier this month on 37 federal counts related to his handling of records. He was also indicted in April on state charges related to the falsification of business records in New York.

Trump is even further ahead in other polls, such as one conducted earlier this month by Harvard CAPS-Harris, which showed Trump is at least 6 points ahead of Biden in a hypothetical 2023 matchup. In that hypothetical GOP primary, Trump came in at 59% while DeSantis was at 14%.

The NBC poll was conducted with 1,000 registered voters from June 16-20 and it had a margin of error of 3.1%.
