Texas Gov. Abbott sends migrants to Los Angeles
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, R, has lent his support to Abbott's scheme, flying migrants into California and even to more remote liberal enclaves such as Martha's Vineyard, which has drawn the ire of Democrats.
Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott this week announced that he had sent a group of migrants to the left-wing bastion of Los Angeles.
The governor has been bussing arrivals from the southern border to sanctuary cities in blue states for more than a year now in a bid to highlight the Biden administration's lax approach to border enforcement. Thus far, many have gone to New York City, Chicago, Denver, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
The addition of the California destination drew harsh condemnation from the city's mayor, Karen Bass, who said the city is not "motivated by hate or fear and we absolutely will not be swayed or moved by petty politicians playing with human lives," Politico reported.
The arrivals reportedly consisted of more than 40 migrants, of whom emergency personnel received advance warning.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, R, has lent his support to Abbott's scheme, flying migrants into California and even to more remote liberal enclaves such as Martha's Vineyard, which has drawn the ire of Democrats. California Attorney General Rob Bonta has recently floated criminal or civil action against him.
Under the Biden administration, border authorities have encountered more than 5 million migrants at the southern border as the government has struggled to address both the surging migration and Republicans' criticism of its border policies.
