Trump drops new DeSantis nickname, referencing Kim Jong-Un moniker
Trump previously referred to Kim as "little rocket man" in reference to the North Korean dictator's pursuit of nuclear armaments.
Former President Donald Trump this week unveiled a new nickname for Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis that appeared to reference a diminutive he assigned to North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.
Appearing on the "Full Send Podcast," Trump referenced DeSantis, saying "I should call him rocket man, but now he’s rocket man that’s crashing. His polls are terrible. I’m leading him in every state."
The "crashing" element appears to refer to a recent surge in Trump's polling numbers for the GOP nomination that has largely come at the expense of the governor, who has not announced his own campaign.
Trump previously referred to Kim as "little rocket man" in reference to the North Korean dictator's pursuit of nuclear armaments.
The former president has periodically bestowed nicknames upon his political opponents, such as "crooked Hillary" for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., received the moniker "crazy Bernie," while Republican Sens. Ted Cruz, Texas, and Marco Rubio, Fla., were dubbed "Lyin' Ted" and "Lil' Marco" respectively during the 2016 presidential contest.
During the 2020 presidential campaign, he termed President Joe Biden "hidin' Biden" in reference to his relative absence from public events during the cycle.
In DeSantis's case, however, Trump appears to have struggled to land on a single choice for the Florida governor. He has previously used "Ron DeSanctimonious" and "Meatball Ron."
